Travellers aboard Air India’s Mumbai-Dubai flight allege airline allotted the same seat to more than one person, leading to scuffle

On Saturday, an Air India aircraft resembled a state transport bus.

The airline had allegedly allotted one particular seat to three passengers and another seat to two passengers on its morning flight from Mumbai to Dubai, leading to chaos and minor scuffle among claimants.

Iqbal Patel was allotted seat No 43-A in AI flight No 717. As he approached it, he saw two passengers arguing over the same seat.

“I was shocked to see the passengers fighting for my seat. Though I told them that it was mine, no one was ready to listen to me,” said Patel, a resident of Squatters Colony, Malad east, who works in Dubai as a newspaper vendor. Not enough, Patel also saw two more passengers quarrelling for another seat.

Soon, an air hostess reached to sort out the issues, but could not do anything as none of the passengers was willing to give up.

Finally, after half an hour, a flight attendant arranged for seats. Sources said even after allotment of separate seats, passengers were seen fighting for their choice of seats.

“The airline made one more mistake. Earlier, we were informed that it was a direct flight to Dubai, but after boarding, we came to know that the flight would go via Abu Dhabi, added Patel.

Annoyed at this, some passengers put written complaints into the suggestion box.

Shobha Nimbalkar, public relations officer of the airline said, “I have checked with the airport office. According to them, there was no duplication of seats in Air India flight no 717.”
