European cargo operator Cargolux has unveiled an updated livery ahead of its planned year-end delivery of Boeing’s 747-8 freighter.

Cargolux calls the new livery an “evolution” of its existing aircraft branding and provides “a glimpse of a new era for the company that will begin with the arrival of the aircraft in Luxembourg later this year”.

The carrier explains the new design “stands for continuity and commitment while confirming the fundamental principles that made Cargolux successful over more than 40 years”. The red, white and blue stripes symbolize the company’s roots in Luxembourg.”

Cargolux adds:”The expanding red colour towards the tail is a symbol of strength and growth, power and expansion. An additional logo on the belly further promotes the brand.”

The new colour scheme will be applied to Cargolux’s all-Boeing 747 fleet.

The aircraft featuring the new livery, RC503, is the fifth 747-8F built, and is slated to serve as the fourth flight test aircraft.

Boeing will use RC503 to conduct engineering flight tests to bolster the airframer’s flight test hours in order to achieve its latest delivery target after incurring more than a year of delays.

Cargolux is expected to take delivery of the first of 13 new GEnx-2B-powered freighters by the close of 2010; however, Boeing has cautioned the end-of-year target may be at risk.
